PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Barack Obama nibbled through the neighborhood called Italian Market on Wednesday and mixed the standard "meet and greet" routine of politics with meats and cheeses from around the world.
The Illinois senator, campaigning ahead of Pennsylvania's April 22 primary, stopped by the well-known food shopping district after a speech to labor leaders downtown.
He dropped into Claudio Specialty Foods, where he munched on some provolone cheese, before heading over to DiBruno Bros. another store that also sells meat and cheese. There, he sampled some asiago and blue cheese.
He also tried something called patanegra, a Spanish ham that, according to one of the workers, cost $99.99 a pound.
"So I ate a dollar's worth," Obama said.
The visit wasn't all fun. Throughout the stop, one man kept insisting on a photo with Obama, who said he wouldn't agree apparently because of an earlier incident in which Obama had tried to talk to some children and the man had interfered.
"You're wearing me out," the senator said. "You've been really rude about it."
